UAS LiDAR + Surveying Work: Skytec Supports Surveyors with Dynamic Data Capture
When precision in mapping matters, geospatial imagery and data gathered through UAS delivers efficient, effective data for professional land surveyors and surveying clients. With an experienced team, dynamic fleet of aircraft and sensors, and GIS expertise, Skytec brings advanced geospatial mapping capabilities to surveyors.
Surveyors are tasked with providing authoritative data points for mapping a given area, setting boundaries and finding elevation and topography. Over the past 20 years, surveyors have increasingly integrated manned aircraft for data capture. With the advent of unmanned aerial systems, paired with seven-plus years of experience in the UAS realm, Skytec provides surveyors with the highest quality data sets to complement their services.
“We work in tandem with surveyors in the field, tying in LiDAR and photogrammetry data and ensuring they’re part of the quality assurance and control process to deliver the highest quality work to clients,” Skytec CEO and Cofounder Bill Rogers says. “Through these collaborations with surveyors, we’re able to deliver a highly accurate end product.”
In an industry traditionally driven by physical mapping and manned aircraft, UAS opens a door to an efficient means to collect data and tap into the latest technology. As a partner, Skytec has a team of expert data analysts and pilots who bring depth of experience flying advanced equipment for the best data capture and processing.
The company maintains a third-party ARGUS platinum safety rating for its UAS safety and best practices. Additionally, Skytec is an Esri Silver Partner and part of that company’s ArcGIS System Ready Specialty, demonstrating Skytec’s commitment to client solutions.
Access to Expertise and the Latest Technology
Compared to manned aircraft or on-the-ground mapping, Skytec’s UAS services can reach large sites and hard-to-access sites with relative ease. With its heavy lift hybrid-powered Harris H6 aircraft, Skytec technicians can reach flight times up to more than 1 hour with its Riegl VUX-1 LiDAR payload. The expanded capabilities of the Harris H6 enable Skytec technicians to tackle complex client work with advanced sensors.
“When mapping 3-dimensional features and topography, our fleet of aircraft and sensors deliver optimal data collection for surveying,” says Andy Carroll, CTO and Cofounder of Skytec. “In any industry related to location technology, digital mapping is becoming standard. As geospatial experts, we can bring surveyors along and help them advance with access to the latest mapping technology and software in the geospatial arena.”
Skytec has been a leader in GIS technology since its founding, partnering with clients to map complex sites with UAS and, more recently, satellite imagery for ongoing change detection and asset management through its Ranger software. Skytec’s acquisition services provide clients with:
Size and scope. Map 100 to 1,000+ acres of nearly any landscape.
Robust data. Capture 75-100 points or more per square meter.
Efficient data capture. Evaluate a site in a matter of hours.
Dynamic sensors. Access a range of sensor technology.
“We can position surveyors to build in efficiencies with our reliable, experienced data capture using UAS,” Rogers says. “With the support of Skytec, surveyors can do more in a shorter period of time. We can tackle the toughest sites, process data in house, and deliver the results in any file format, freeing up surveyors to focus on additional services.”
