Taking Data Security Above and Beyond

Jul 8, 2019

Everywhere we turn these days, it seems like “data breach” or “compromised data” pops up in the news and in everyday conversation. For good reason, too. As technology has become ubiquitous and part of nearly every facet of our lives, more information and data is out there and easily accessible.

The numbers are pretty staggering:

  • According to the ID Theft Center, the number of data breaches reported in the United States increased from 614 breaches in 2013 to 1,579 data breaches in 2017.
  • Some estimates indicate that cybercriminals will steal around 33 billion — yes, billion — records in the year 2023.
  • By 2023, half of the world’s data breaches will occur in the United States.
  • The average data breach costs companies $3.86 million.

Those numbers speak for themselves. So, what’s the takeaway? An age of constant technology calls for hypervigilant data security measures.

That’s why at Skytec, we’re committed to offering our customers with multifaceted data security from start to finish. We know that our clients expect optimal quality and data security measures — and we have the systems in place to provide just that.

A Three-Pronged Approach

There are three phases of every Skytec project — acquire, analyze, and inform. That takes a client’s project from the very start, when the data is obtained through remote sensing technologies, through the finish, when the finalized dataset is provided to a client either through the cloud or in an encrypted format.

Skytec frequently works with customers in a number of industries dealing with highly sensitive information from the energy, utility, infrastructure, and environmental sectors. Whether managing critical assets or maintaining sensitive legal evidence, our clients prioritize security and the ability to audit data use. At every step of the process, Skytec takes steps to ensure security.

“We know that for our clients, data security isn’t just a want — it’s a requirement,” says Andrew Carroll, CTO of Skytec. “The ability to provide a high level of security assurance is something that separates us from our competition in the industry. We can provide this to our clients for the entire lifetime of their project.”

The Latest Steps

To protect highly sensitive data, Skytec is introducing a method of end-to-end encryption. This new approach solves the problems associated with encryption-decryption cycles generated through multiple stages of processing and transfer of final data products. With multiple people touching projects, along with client interaction, traditional encryption technologies proved to be a tedious process.

Seeking a more appropriate solution, Skytec partnered with a cyber-security software company to produce a comprehensive workflow security solution — one that’s easier for all parties involved to navigate.

It offers a unique proposition, producing files that essentially adapt and react to the environment they’re in and protect themselves. These files are set up in a way that allows them to be safely and securely shared and archived beyond the Skytec network.

Sound a little like science fiction? Nope, just the new Skytec measures to protect your data.

“We’ve really worked to look at data through all three of those phases,” Carroll says. “This new tool secures the delivery component, allowing us to audit and verify at all stages of the process that no one else saw the information.”

Skytec provides a multifaceted process for obtaining optimal data — and a multifaceted data security process to go along with it. Ready to get started? Contact us today.
