Skytec Launches 3D Modeling from Satellite Imagery

Oct 27, 2023

Using satellite data and imagery, Skytec’s 3D reality models provide an additional dimension of verification, demonstration and exploration.

Through its Ranger™ platform, Skytec offers change detection monitoring and access to near-on-demand, high-frequency, high-resolution satellite imagery and data for locations anywhere on Earth.

Now, using satellite imagery stereo collection, Skytec delivers 3D mapping and models to further visualize and create a vertical record of a landscape or any area on the planet.

With the combination of LiDAR data sets and stereo collection of satellite imagery, Skytec data analysts can begin to quantify relative biomass or estimate volumes of stockpiles, for example, all without going on site.

The benefits of 3D imaging and mapping are far-reaching:

Drive decision-making with the guidance of a digital twin, documenting three dimensions and time.

Estimate volume of stockpiles, materials, or debris.

Capture a vertical record of canopy, useful for biomass calculations or forest management.

Monitor construction or engineering sites and evaluate terrain.

Measure three-dimensional conditions of pipeline and utility corridors.

Measure and assess the impact and recovery process of natural disasters.

“Before even setting foot on a site, clients have access to the technology to view a three-dimensional fingerprint of almost any given landscape,” says Andy Carroll, CTO and Cofounder of Skytec. “We’re able to create a digital twin, or virtual representation of a space that is capable of analysis in GIS or CAD software applications.”

Innovating to Meet Client Needs

This latest addition to its suite of services demonstrates Skytec’s ability to innovate and deliver relevant, useful client solutions.

“Historically there have been barriers to entry to gain this level of 3D reality mapping,” says Bill Rogers, CEO and Cofounder of Skytec. “We’re excited that this offering gives clients, particularly across the forestry, architecture, engineering and construction, and mining industries, access to scalable, high-quality 3D imagery and modeling.”

While Ranger already delivers access to two-dimensional tip and cue, now Skytec can provide 3D verification through its partners’ data and imagery. Business leaders can demonstrate important concepts to decision-makers or stakeholders with a 3D model that translates to both GIS and non-GIS users.

“At Skytec we’re committed to the latest technology and advances for our clients,” Rogers says. “With technology that advances and changes at a rapid pace, we remain consistent in our ability to innovate and demonstrate incredible value to clients.”
