Safety Is Our First Priority on Every Job

Mar 5, 2019

As a leader in unmanned aerial systems, remote sensing, and geographic information systems technologies, we are committed to the safety of our clients, our teams, and the general public. Each project we take on poses different safety concerns for those involved, and we take every step to ensure the highest level of safety in every project

Building a foundation of safety

Skytec was built on the foundation of having some of the highest safety measures in our industry. We are consistently committed to developing and promoting an industry-leading safety culture by using best practices and adhering to industry standards from both manned and unmanned aviation.

We make sure all of our employees working on each job go through rigorous site-specific training. Our flight crews train to the highest industry standards so they are properly prepared for each type of environment or hazard to which they may be exposed. These industry standards are set by regulatory agencies, client safety training requirements, and Skytec’s own training requirements.

Staying one step ahead

Eric Gibson is the safety director here at Skytec. He makes sure we’re all properly trained on the most up-to-date safety procedures for each of the services we provide our customers and keeps safety as his number one priority.

“Skytec stresses the importance of moving from a reactive safety culture to a more proactive and predictive safety environment in a brand new industry with brand new technology,” he says. “To help us achieve this evolution, we utilize a Safety Management System (SMS), which applies a quality management approach to control safety risks in operations.”

So, what does this mean?

To sum it up, this system helps us identify hazards while determining mitigation strategies to reduce risks as much as possible.

The value of safety certification

In addition to maintaining safety standards through our own internal audit program, Skytec promotes and maintains a positive safety culture through formal safety training that yields high-level safety certifications and accreditations. Our flight crews undergo regular training under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Mine Safety and Health Administration. They also study and practice various forms of first aid, including CPR.

Members of our team also hold ARGUS platinum certification in organizational and operational standards. We are proud to say we were the first unmanned service provider to complete an ARGUS unmanned audit for platinum certification.

Our company also holds an ISNetworld Registration with an A rating, which is another way we make sure we are upholding industry standards in safety.
