2023: A Year of Innovation and Growth for Skytec

Dec 29, 2023

Skytec leaders celebrate a year of growth and innovation in UAS and drone solutions, as well as demonstrated client success with Ranger for change detection and satellite imagery.

Four years ago, Skytec leaders set out to grow their solutions. Founded as a UAS and drone imagery solutions provider, Skytec sought to build on their team’s expertise, culture of aviation safety, and depth of experience collecting and analyzing different types of data.

As early adopters of high-definition, remote satellite imagery, the team developed a powerful change detection and remote monitoring tool on the Esri platform — Ranger.

Now clients across the country and globe are using Ranger to Monitor What Matters™, harnessing the power of change detection, remote satellite monitoring and customized data analysis for measuring and monitoring almost anything on Earth.

“We’re excited to have invested energy, intellect and resources to build this scalable monitoring system for clients around the globe,” says Bill Rogers, Cofounder and CEO of Skytec. “We have clients now renewing for the third year because they’re getting great value out of these services. Our solutions work. We’re constantly improving this viable product. The world is waking up to the need for global monitoring, and the needs are massive.”

Depth of Experience: Growth in Technology and Team

In 2023, Skytec’s service offerings expanded and the team developed cutting-edge technological innovations to best support clients across industries.

Visualize an area through 3D modeling with high-resolution verification capabilities. Using satellite imagery stereo collection, Skytec delivers 3D mapping and modeling to drive decision-making with a digital twin.

An expansion of SAR technology enables clients to capture satellite imagery in all weather environments.

Beyond advances in technological capabilities, Skytec’s team has depth of experience in GIS and natural resources, connecting clients with an expert resource for data capture, analysis and monitoring.

“As a team, we now have 60-plus combined years of professional experience in GIS,” says Andy Carroll, Cofounder and CTO of Skytec. “That experience with GIS in natural resources is a key differentiator for our team and company.”

Advanced Data Collection with UAS

Now in its ninth year as leaders in UAS and drone imagery, Skytec continues to work with surveyors and large consultancies to acquire precise, accurate data that may be otherwise hard to capture.

Skytec combines a culture of aviation safety, experienced pilots, and the latest sensors to capture high-end LiDAR and aerial photogrammetry. The UAS solution enables Skytec to fuse data sets with satellite imagery, when needed, and to increase accuracies and modeling.

Capture dynamic data in hard-to-reach areas for professional land surveyors.

Combined with satellite imagery data, support utility companies with vegetation management along transmission corridors to reduce risk and build best practices.

“There aren’t many independent operators in the drone industry that demonstrate our commitment to safety and turnkey data solutions,” Rogers says. “We deliver consistent results and a wide variety of data sets depending on the clients needs.”

Ranger in Action
Ranger, now in its fourth year, provides actionable analytics to clients in real time. With Skytec, clients have the ability to capture aerial data, such as LiDAR or high-resolution photogrammetry collected by UAS, and pair it with high-resolution satellite imagery.

Clients are praising Ranger and related solutions, such as GIS professional services, for building efficiencies and establishing best practices integrated into the established Esri platform.

Find efficiencies with remote monitoring, such as cost savings for land conservancies when evaluating conservation easements.

Analyze complex data sets, such as the recent Limestone Valley RC&D project that demonstrated the power of satellite imagery, geospatial data, and UAS to create a model to support regenerative agriculture in Northeast Georgia and beyond.

Use custom tools, including biodiversity monitoring and weekly harvest monitoring, to support sustainability initiatives in forestry and natural resource sectors.

“There’s a growing need for actionable analytics across market segments — monitoring natural resources, understanding the needs of utilities, forestry, mining and conservation — and variations in the markets continue to grow and expand,” Rogers says. “We understand the complexities of continually delivering actionable analytics by monitoring areas of interest. We deliver data points that enable leaders to make better decisions. We have a wide variety of imagery, knowledge and experience to stay on the leading edge of this quickly changing data solutions industry to get the best results for clients.”
