Government

Government agencies are responsible for more land than any team can physically monitor. We give you the near-real-time environmental intelligence to steward our country’s greatest assets.

Environmental intelligence for government agencies

Government agencies manage land at a scale that boots-on-the-ground monitoring simply can’t keep up with.

We work with state agencies, public utilities, and other government organizations to replace slow, labor-intensive GIS processes with near-real-time environmental intelligence. Our solutions are built to hold up in regulatory filings, permitting decisions, and legal proceedings.

When it comes to protecting public land, we can’t afford to get it wrong.

Wetland mapping and prediction

What once took months or years of manual work to map, we can now map in days. We apply geo-AI and deep learning to satellite imagery to produce detailed, defensible wetland maps that the whole community can use.

Public land monitoring

Monitor conservation easements, boundary lines, and sensitive habitats across thousands—even millions—of acres, without dispatching field teams. Our Ranger® product delivers near real-time change detection across any-sized landscape.

Natural disaster impact assessment

When a wildfire, flood, or storm hits, agencies need to understand the impact the disaster has had on the landscape right away. No waiting months to assess the damage—we can quantify the impact just days after the event.

How we solved TDEC’s wetland detection problem

When federal wetland protections shifted, states were suddenly on the hook to manage their own. Tennessee needed to know exactly what wetlands it had. A special legislative session gave us eight weeks to predict every wetland in the state at three-meter resolution. So, we did.

Using geo-AI technologies paired with our decades of environmental management expertise, we mapped 800,000 additional acres of wetlands beyond what the National Wetland Inventory showed. Our solution was built at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods, with greater accuracy. TDEC now uses our wetland detection tool for every development project across the entire state.

In this webinar presented to the National Association of Wetland Managers (NAWM), Andy Carroll walks through exactly how Skytec created the tool and outlines how other states could follow suit.

We’re a small organization with a lot of land. It’s not feasible for us to rely solely on patrolling our boundary lines on foot. With Skytec, we have extra eyes in the sky on our properties basically at all times. We catch issues early and notify state foresters quickly.

Skytec gave us the ability to identify our key habitats, such as our mountain bogs, our hemlock groves, our rhododendron, our bluff lines where neotropical bird species are coming through. With Skytec’s help, we decided where to construct our bird laboratory based on where we wanted people to enter our property and where we wanted to conduct our research.
